I would very much recommend not manipulating the DOM using fnRowCallback to add row details. There are much clearer ways of doing it.

The FAQs as a question and answer about this: http://datatables.net/faqs#speed . I'd say server-side myself. i wouldn't like to download megabytes of data of page load!
