is that the latest jquery file? Do I have to use that file in order for this plugin to work? Does it conflict with jquery-1.4.1.js?

    I believe 1.6 and onwards need at least jQuery 1.4, the point versions doesn't matter to much I believe.

    The answer is use 1 or the other. I found that the jQuery.js file that comes with this plugin is the 1.4.2 jquery.

    The current release of DataTables should work just fine with jQuery 1.3 and later. It's fully tested and ships with jQuery 1.4.2 (the latest jQuery release) though.

    I'm using jQuery 1.3.2 and Datatable 1.7.3 and haven't found any errors yet.
